Fair Nesting

Who we are

Fair Nesting (“Fair Nesting”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) provides a household contribution tracking service that helps household members log shared work, see how effort is distributed, and keep home life fairer.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using Fair Nesting, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

Information we collect

We collect information you provide and information generated when you use the service:

  • Account details such as your name, email address, password (stored in hashed form by our authentication provider), and appearance preferences.
  • Household information such as household name, membership, roles, invitations, Away periods, saved Routines (named task lists you create to speed up recording), and settings you configure.
  • Activity you log in Fair Nesting, including tasks, completion times, notes, token values, related history, and review requests on recordings (reason, explanation, status, and any response) that are visible only to the requester and the original recorder.
  • Thanks you send on other members’ recordings, including any optional thank-you message you choose to include.
  • Task preferences you set (for example that you prefer doing certain tasks), including any start or end dates you choose.
  • Ask for help requests you send to another household member about a task, including any optional private message you include.
  • Billing and subscription information for household plans, such as subscription status, trial or paid-access end dates, and Stripe customer or subscription identifiers. Payment card details are collected and processed by Stripe — we do not store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Limited information about which features you use (for example when Statistics is viewed), so we can improve the service. This information is not used for advertising.
  • Feedback and support messages you send through Help & Feedback, including any details you choose to share.
  • Technical information needed to operate the service securely, such as session data, approximate device/browser information, and diagnostic logs.

How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve Fair Nesting.
  • Check that it’s you when you sign in, keep you signed in on your devices when you choose that option, and protect accounts.
  • Show household contribution history, fairness insights, and related features to members of your household.
  • Process household subscriptions, manage free trials and paid access, and show billing status in Settings (including the owner’s subscription and payment settings).
  • Send emails about your account, invitations and payments — such as account confirmation, password reset, invitation-related emails, and billing or subscription notices where needed.
  • Respond to feedback and support requests.
  • Monitor reliability, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.

Household visibility

Fair Nesting is designed for shared household use. Information you add to a household — including your display name, task completions, notes, Away status, contribution totals, and active task preferences — may be visible to other current members of that household as described in this Household visibility section. Saved Routines are private to the member who created them.

When someone sends Thanks on a recording, other household members can see that Thanks was given and who sent it. Any written thank-you message stays between the person who thanked and the people listed as having done that task — not the wider household.

Ask for help requests (and any message included) are visible only to the member who asked and the member who was asked. Review requests on recordings are visible only to the member who raised the request and the member who originally recorded the entry — not to other household members, including the owner, unless they are one of those two parties.

If you leave a household, or a member is removed, historical entries may remain as part of the household record where history is preserved.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use essential cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences such as theme, and operate the service securely. These are required for Fair Nesting to function as intended.

We do not use Fair Nesting to run third-party advertising trackers on the product experience described in this policy.

Service providers

We use trusted service providers to help us run Fair Nesting, including hosting, database, and authentication infrastructure. Those providers process information on our behalf under appropriate contractual and security arrangements.

We use Stripe to process household subscription payments. When an owner starts checkout or opens the billing portal, Stripe may collect payment method details, billing contact information, and related transaction data. Stripe processes that information as described in Stripe’s own privacy policy. We receive limited subscription details from Stripe (for example subscription status, customer or subscription identifiers, and period or trial end dates) so we can unlock or pause recording features for the household.

We do not sell your personal information.

Household billing visibility

Household subscription status and related access dates may be visible to members of that household in Settings. Only the household owner can start checkout or manage payment methods through Stripe. Other members can see billing status but cannot open Checkout or the Customer Portal for that household.

Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide Fair Nesting, maintain household records you participate in, resolve disputes, enforce our Terms of Use, and comply with legal requirements.

If you close your account, we disable sign-in and may retain account data for up to 90 days so support can restore access if needed. After that window, or if you request permanent deletion, we delete or anonymise personal information associated with your account where reasonably possible, except where we must retain information for security, legal, or legitimate operational reasons, or where household history still depends on retained records.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable privacy or consumer laws — for example to access, correct, update, or delete certain personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, or to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Those rights and how they apply can vary by country or state. Nothing in this Privacy Policy is intended to limit rights that mandatory local law gives you.

You can update some account and household details directly in Fair Nesting. For other privacy requests, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.

Children

Fair Nesting is intended for people aged 16 and over who manage household accounts. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

International processing

Fair Nesting is offered to users in multiple countries. We and our service providers may process and store information in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, the United States, or other countries where we or they operate.

That means your information may be transferred to, and processed in, countries that may have different data-protection rules from those in your country of residence. Where required by applicable law, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers (for example contractual protections with service providers).

By using Fair Nesting, you understand that your information may be processed internationally as described in this section, subject to your mandatory local rights.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date on this page. If changes are material, we may also provide an additional notice in the product or by email where appropriate.

Continued use of Fair Nesting after an update means you accept the revised Privacy Policy.
